Bonnie Lea Van Dyke of Westminster, Colorado, age 89, passed away February 5, 2024 after a long struggle with Dementia. She was born on November 8, 1934 in Gunnison, Colorado to Eben and Hazel (Guerin) Monroe.
She grew up in Gunnison, Howard and Canon City.
On June 20, 1952 she married Bernard Edwin (Ed) Van Dyke. Ed enlisted in the Army and they lived in Fort Hood, Tx. When Ed was sent to Germany to serve, Bonnie moved back to Canon City and worked in a nursing facility and began raising her family. After Ed returned from the service, they eventually ended up in the Denver Metro area. There she raised their family and worked in schools and nursing homes as a cooking assistant. In 1980 they moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. She served the Lord there working in the preschool department as a Sunday School teacher, she also fostered children in need of a good home. They lived in Shreveport for about 7 and a half years, then returned to the Denver metro area. She continued to faithfully serve the Lord at Alameda Hills Baptist Church, enjoyed retirement and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Edwin (Linda) Van Dyke, Leonard (Candy) Van Dyke, Keith Van Dyke; her sister Jill Blietz, 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ed, her parents Eben and Hazel, her sisters Galatta Cochran and June Bingston, her brother Bryce Monroe, her great grandson Ethan Van Dyke and great granddaughter Megan Van Dyke.
A memorial service for Bonnie will be held on February 29, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at:
Applewood Baptist Church 11200 W. 32nd Avenue, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 (in the main sanctuary).
