Dear Grandma,

Words cannot express how much I miss you, but I hold strong to the fact that you are now at peace. I have many fond memories of you and I that I will always remember. Of course Christmas Eve with you were always the best times of the year. I am so blessed to have spent your final moments here on Earth with you, and I will always cherish that. I love you so much!

you were an amazing person. My cousins, Sarah, Shereen, John, Brian, and I were extremely fortunate to have such a great grandma our entire lives. We grew up with just such a loving, beautiful woman. you have always been a huge part of all our lives...  you just loved all of us so much.. we meant so much to you, and it was evident. 
I can't believe your not here anymore, but I know your still living your life in heaven. Its hard thinking I won't ever hear your voice again while my time still living on this earth, but i'll always take our memories with me for the rest of my life. 
I was so blessed to be able to spend time with you during your last moments of your life, and ill teasure those moments forever. I'll always remember when you grabbed my hand, your last day in the hospital, and took it up to your face and kissed my hand. I'll never forget it. But it wasn't goodbye, just a "see ya soon"... because we will be together someday. I love you so much grandma. we all do

Dear Grandma,

You were the embodiment of a strong woman, and I am so proud to say that is a characteristic you passed down through many generations; you to my Mother, my Mother to me, and me to my Daughter.  You taught me so much during our time together, for every memory I hold, I am grateful.
  
The exceptional adoration you held for Kelina was a rare precious gift you gave us.  I am at peace knowing Kelina had a chance to share many fond memories with you and that will carry on in her heart for a lifetime.  She loves her “Old Grandma” so much!

Words escape me when I attempt to express the grief I feel, so I'll end with the poem I plan to recite during your service.

Do not stand at my grave and weep, 
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight

I am happy I could share this beautiful poem that touches my heart, I wanted you to read it in the likely event my words become inaudible during the service.

I am so very sorry to hear of Birdella's passing, and send you, her family and friends, my heart felt condolences and prayers that you may find comfort during this time of deep sorrow. Birdella was a wonderful friend and fun-loving person, and I am very glad that I met her when I lived in Colorado many years ago. After I moved back to my home state of Minnesota, we kept in touch with phone calls and Christmas cards, and after I retired earlier this year I came to visit Birdella for a week in July. I am very thankful for that week that we spent together and the gatherings I attended with friends and family of Birdella's, to meet all of you. Birdella especially enjoyed my singing with the guitar, mostly ballad songs, and I brought my little guitar with me on the plane. I will remember her sweet smile and the happiness she enjoyed and shared with me, and her lively and strong spirit, plus her intelligence, and her sense of humor. During my visit that week we went on a Coors tour and also to the Denver Natural History Museum. And so I will miss Birdella very much; our loss, is Heaven's gain. I send prayers, to you, her family and friends, in this time of sorrow and hope that you will find comfort in her memory. Birdella lived a great life because she was a wonderful person indeed. May we find comfort believing that her spirit is now home with God, and in honoring her memory.

We shared alot of good memories, many of them long forgotten until reflecting on your life over the past few weeks.

I will never forget your love of flowers, our green house and the hours we spent planting and tending to the yard.  So many fond memories with my sister Kim and our cousins, Russell, Mark, Denise, and Robert picking peas from the garden or pulling weeds so you would take us swimming.  Those were the best times.  

When I was expecting Sarah, you lavished me with presents to welcome your first grandchild and hosted the most wonderful baby shower for me.  Over the next 9 years you were blessed with four more grandchildren from me (Shereen, John, and Brian) and Emily from Kim.  You were a wonderful grandmother.  The children loved going to Grandma's house for Christmas.  I remember taking you to do your shopping and the cart would be overflowing with all of the toys.  Then we would go home and I would wrap all of your presents and you would write the labels and attach them to the presents until midnight when we were finally finished.  Your house was always beautifully decorated for Christmas.  Even though you struggled physically, your joy was very much apparent during the holidays, especially Christmas.

I remember the day I told you that Shereen was expecting Kelina.  You were so excited to have a great granddaughter that you squealed with delight, clapped your hands, and stomped your feet!  When you laid in your hospital bed and you were non-responsive to all of those around you, it was Kelina that spoke to "Old Grandma" and you miraculously opened your eyes and talked so that you could tell her how beautiful her painted finger nails were.  You later told me that Kelina had saved your life.  I will keep this memory alive for Kelina, so that as she grows older, she will always know how much "Old Grandma" loved her.  

Mom, you were such a strong and independent woman and I admired your strength so much.  Finally, you were just too sick to fight any more, but you were surrounded by those who loved you when you passed away.  During your final moments, your grandchildren, Denise, and I held you and surrounded you with our love and were with you as you left this world on your way to heaven.  Although I am very saddened, I am grateful that you were not alone when you departed from us.  In my heart, I know that Nanny, Virginia, Robert, and Russell were there to greet you in heaven.

I love you Mom.  You will be with me in spirit forever.
