Beverly Jean Hiller, 64, of Lakewood, Co., passed away Aug. 14, 2019, at her residence after a courageous 2-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Bev donated her body to the University of Colorado - Anschutz Medical Center. Memorial services will be held on September 27th at 1:00 PM at the Shepard of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Lakewood, Colorado.
Bev was born Dec. 9, 1954, to Russell and Phyllis (Lindsay) Hiller in Cherokee, Iowa. She was baptized April 5, 1955 at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, rural Marcus.
She graduated from Marcus High School in 1973, and from the University of South Dakota in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology.
Bev worked in hospitals in Sioux Falls, Sioux City, Grand Island, and Anchorage, Alaska. In 1987 she enrolled at Colorado State University and received a Masters Degree in Environmental Health in Dec., 1989. She earned credentials as a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professional. The last 19 years she had been employed as an Industrial Hygienist at the National Renewal Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colo.
Bev’s interests during her younger years included music (piano and flute) and 4-H. Later in life her interests turned to travel, historical old buildings, time with her co-workers, and her Norwegian Elk Hounds.
Bev will be fondly remembered for the gentle way she brought people together and how she loved to help people.
NREL benefited greatly from Beverly’s expertise. She was an Environment, Health, and Safety point of contact at a variety of buildings on South Table Mountain Campus, and later became a safety supervisor and manager. Those who visited her office were struck by the pink flamingo decor.
In 2006, NREL leadership gave her NREL’s President’s Award. She was also honored with a 2008 Staff Award, and then in April 2012, the lab honored her work with a Chairman’s Award for her large-magnitude impact and sustained exceptional performance as a health and safety professional at NREL.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents.
Bev is survived by her brother Bruce (Julie) Hiller, aunts Janet Lindsay of Lexington, Ky., Carole (Park) Hollenbeck of Manteno, Il., and many many friends in Colorado.
