On November 20th, 2020 Betty Jean Dalton went home to be with her Lord. After 91 years here on earth, she exchanged her COVID-weakened body for one with no disease or pain.
Betty was born on June 16, 1929 at her home in Old Hickory, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Lester and Grace Simmons. She moved around as a child and ended up relocating to Denver at the age of 12 when her dad came to work at Rocky Flats.
Betty attended North High School, in Denver and met her husband Frank Dalton during her high school years. They were married on February 3, 1950. They were madly in love and were married 64 years until Frank's passing. Frank and Betty had two daughters, Sherry and Sandy. They raised their girls in Arvada, moving to Broomfield after the girls were out of the house. Frank and Betty loved to fish and play golf. In Broomfield, Frank and Betty were involved in Greenway Park Golf Course and Club House, where Betty was affectionately known as “The Sheriff of Greenway Park”.
Betty lived the last six years at Covenant Village in Westminster, where she developed many new friends. Even to those she didn’t know, she was known as the well-dressed lady with the red hair. For the last two years at Covenant, Betty was a shining light in the Memory Care wing. She always had a smile, a “How are you, Honey?” and always an encouraging word for her fellow residents.
One of Betty’s passions was teaching elementary age kids about Jesus. For 50+ years she poured herself into kids through weekly Good News Clubs (part of Child Evangelism Fellowship). A countless number of children came to know Jesus because of Betty.
Betty is survived by her daughter Sherry Helmer (David), five grandchildren, Krista McBain (Travis), Kayla Smiley (Kevin), Ryan Helmer (Stephanie), Rachel D’Ardenne (Ben) and Regan Helmer, along with eight great-grandchildren, Ashlyn McBain, Emma McBain, Natalie Helmer, Dawson Helmer, Julia D’Ardenne, Jackson D’Ardenne, Clara D’Ardenne and Emberlynn Wessel. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank, her daughter Sandy Kidwell (George) and her brother Jack Simmons (Ethel).
There will be a private graveside service for Betty in mid-December. Due to COVID restrictions, please contact the family and let them know if you are planning to attend.
A memorial service will be held at Tri-Cities Baptist Church, after the first of the year (COVID dependent).
