Betty’s adventurous life began in Iowa City, Iowa, in 1924. The daughter of University of Iowa swimming coach, David Armbruster and his beloved wife, Edna Collins Armbruster, Betty was a true coach’s daughter, enjoying swimming and tennis with her sister and friends. Betty received a bachelor degree in commerce from the U of Iowa and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
One of Betty’s first jobs was with Merridith publishing, Better Homes and Gardens, in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1951, the call of the Colorado Rockies drew her to Denver, where Betty worked at the Denver Mint, Department of the Treasury, as procurement officer, for 35 years. Betty was an active member and volunteer of the Central Presbyterian Church in Denver. In her spare time Betty was a contour seamstress and found enjoyment in hiking her mountains near Estes, CO, with friends and family. She was also, an avid fan of the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies. She loved her Denver Post sports section, where you would find her studying the stats page daily.
Betty is predeceased by her mother and father and her three siblings and their spouses. She is survived by eleven nieces and nephews, and their families. We all will miss her feisty, yet gentle, loving spirit. Betty would like to be remembered as “of the mountains”, that she loved so well.
Details on memorial services will be announced at a later date for Denver and Iowa City.
