He was born on October 14, 1942, in Liberal, KS, the son of Harold and Betty Hodges and brother to his younger sister Linda.
Alan spent his childhood in Liberal, KS, Evergreen, CO and Westminster, CO where he graduated from Westminster High School.
Right after high school Alan formed his own band Alan Hodges & The Niteowls. His band was very popular in Denver in the 1960’s and his records were often played on local radio stations. His band eventually moved to Las Vegas where they were the top billing at the Pussycat A-Go-Go.
It was during this stretch when he met his beautiful, loving wife Charlene Westerberg. They married on May 18, 1964. They were a very special couple who loved each other deeply and were true best friends. Alan and Charlene had two sons, Michael and Gary. The family grew up in southeast Denver.
Alan coached his sons Mike and Gary and many southeast Denver boys in the 1970’s and 1980’s in baseball, basketball and football. He was known in the neighborhood as ‘Coach’. Alan, along with his son Michael, also coached his grandson Charlie in baseball for much of his little league career.
Alan was a veteran of the Army and was stationed in Germany for 2 years. A Graphic Designer by trade, Alan went on to own his own advertising agency and was a database marketing executive for various firms.
His true passion beyond his family was art. Alan was gourmet chef, painter, poet and avid reader. His artwork is displayed in many homes around the country. Alan was also an avid golfer and lover of all types of music, especially classical.
Preceded in death by his parents and sister, father-in-law Carl Westerberg and mother-in-law Elizabeth Westerberg, sister-in-law Pat Westerberg and nephew Chris Westerberg, he is survived by: wife Charlene Hodges, sons Michael and Gary Hodges, grandchildren Charlie, Anika, Austen and Anna Hodges, brother in laws George and Gary Westerberg, sister in law Judy Westerberg, nephews Ron, Craig and Clint Westerberg, nieces Kim Rike and Sarah Moore and pets: Spike, Pebbles & Bam Bam.
A celebration of life for Alan will be held Monday, July 19, 2021 at 9:30 AM tat Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, Pavilion of Reflection with a brief committal service to follow.
