Dr. William Sproul Stickley

Dr. William Sproul Stickley, 91, of Harrisonburg, passed away on July 30, 2024 at his home.
He was born on May 8, 1933 in Harrisonburg and was the son of the late D. C. Stickley, Sr. and Katherine Sproul Stickley.
Dr. Stickley spent 14 years in Harrisonburg and then moved to Meadow View Farm.
He graduated from Harrisonburg High School, VMI, Bowman Gray School of Medicine at the University of Alabama. He served in the US Army from 1960-1962, where he was stationed in Greece as the front line medical officer. He returned to UVA for two years in anesthesiology; he then practiced in Harrisonburg for one year before moving to Winchester until 1985. He moved to the Eastern Shore and ran an oyster and crab business; he still participated in general practice at Chincoteague; on the weekends he ran the OR and OB units at Virginia Beach General Hospital. He returned to Harrisonburg to run the family farm and practice at RMH. He retired in 2002.
Married Anna F. Douglas in 1959, their children are Robert F. Stickley, Regina F. Stickley and Edward Lee Stickley; he later married Betty Richard Golightly in 1980, with a daughter, Carol Anne and son, William Stickley, II.
The family will receive friends at the home from 1-4 pm, Saturday, August 10, 2024. Honoring his wishes he will be cremated.
