Bill was an open minded leader with a strong commitment to social justice. He never let oppression or discrimination go unchallenged. A feminist, personally and professionally, Bill worked to ensure the rights of all were recognized and respected.
Starting at SaskTel Bill became involved in the labour movement and NDP. During the 80s/90s Bill served on the Communication Workers of Canada (CWC, CEP) National Executive Board as the Western Region Vice-President. In the 90s Bill became the Vice-President of Human Resources at Saskatchewan’s Crown Investments Corp. (CIC). He worked towards pay equity within its holdings and getting collective agreements aligned. In the later 90s Bill moved over to SaskPower as the Vice-President of Human Resources where he worked on leadership development and more progressive means of resolving conflict and interacting with the workforce.
Bill was proud to come from the province that both birthed Medicare and introduced strong crown corporations that serve the people and protect their interests in Saskatchewan’s natural resources. He was deeply disappointed in his last years to watch the province fall behind in its progressiveness.
He possessed a strong sense of humour and was surprisingly kind. Always offering to help Bill enjoyed working on building projects and often traveled great distances, tools in hand, to assist. Retirement allowed Bill more time on the golf course and in a good book.
His commitment to social justice continued through his final days as his heart yearned for a just peace in the Middle East.
Bill is predeceased by his mother, Mary Hyde (Tjeltveit); father, Stuart Patrick Hyde; daughter, Mary Hyde. He is survived by his partner of 38 years, Janet Johnson; his daughter, Jenny Davies and her children, Evan Davies (Cathy); Courtney Yaremchuk (Kyle); Brynn Davies; his great- grandchildren, Averi, Isabelle, Zayden, Palmer, and Miller, as well as his dog, Charlie.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Nov. 9th, 2024 at St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, 1861 McIntyre Street, Regina, Saskatchewan with Reverend Christine Burton officiating. The service will be live-streamed on the Cathedral's Facebook page for those wanting to attend but unable.
In lieu of flowers donations are requested to UNRWA or charity of choice committed to aiding others.
