On August 30, 2022 our beautiful mama took her last breath on Earth and her first breath in Heaven. It is with deep sadness we say farewell, but with profound faith we believe, as mama always said, “The Best is Yet to Come!” So even though our hearts are heavy, we know she is with Jesus, our dad and all those who, as Christ followers, have gone before her. It was mama’s desire, once she knew her illness was terminal, that she would pass away on the date of her own mother’s birthday, August 26 (1901); however, her love for life kept her going for a few days longer.
Vivian was predeceased by her husband Robert Christian Johnson; her parents, Almyrah and Oscar Roysum; her in-laws, Rasmus and Karen Johnson; her siblings, Fern Clausen, Delores Larsen, Peggy Johnson and Omer Roysum; her sisters-in-law, Ragna (Frank)Schnell and Mabel Johnson; her brothers-in-law, Leonard Johnson, Henry Clausen, Lawrence Skjerdal, Duane Larsen, Herman Johnson, Sam Locken.
Vivian will be lovingly remembered by her five children and their spouses: Cheryl (Rick) Williams, Patty (Melwyn) Bangsund, Rodney (Lyn) Johnson, Wendy (Dallas) Johnson-Pederson, Kimberly (Ross) Winter; 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; Laurie (Tom) Reule and their children, Ryyan, Reegan and Abbey; Jason (Shannon) Williams and their daughter, Lily; Heidi (Steve) Delf and their children, Hunter, Jackson and Lauren; Joshua (Caitlin) Bangsund and their children, Hudson, Sawyer and Macey; Kelli (Kenton) Fredlund and their children, Peyton and Presley; Jami (Vaughn) Engel and their children, Kardin and Boston; Rob (Rebekah) Johnson and their children, JR, Emma and Seth; Brooke (Hudson) Isaak and their son, Iverson; Glenn (Stephanie) Pederson and their children, Grace, Olivia and Huxley; Brandy (Todd) Magnus and their sons, Braxton, Lincoln, Titan and Stetson; Benji (Erica) Pederson and their son, Emmett; Austen Huber and Brendan Hamilton; her sister, Beverly Locken; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Roysum; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Our mama loved life and lived each day to its fullest. She treated everyone she met with genuine care and generosity. Her attitude was always upbeat and positive; she was such an encouragement to others. Mom’s heart was always at the farm, where she had spent many years with dad raising their family. She said he was the ‘love of her life’, and God blessed them with a happy, long marriage of 64 years. She loved the prairies and dad would always pick her crocuses in the pasture each Spring. Moving to Weyburn in 1987 and building their house on Brimacombe, followed by their move to the Coteau Manor condo, helped mom adjust to small city living. At 92 years old she was still able to live on her own and take care of herself; Nurse Patty helped mama stay at her condo right until her Heavenly journey. Mom enjoyed baking and entertaining - family and friends were everything to her. No one ever left mom’s place hungry or without knowing they were special. Everyone loved mom’s cinnamon twists and spudnuts, plus she enjoyed making Norwegian foods at Christmas, such as lefse and lutefisk! Our mom loved shopping and shoes! Mom didn’t miss sending a card for every occasion throughout the year, not to just her own kids, but she remembered every single grand and great grandchild as well! A handwritten letter, some cash and lots of love were tucked into each of those cards.
Mom loved Jesus most of all and we know Heaven has gained a beautiful soul. Our lives are forever touched and richer; her legacy lives on!
A Funeral Service was held at the Calvary Baptist Church on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 2:00 P.M., with Pastor Jody Pfeifer officiating, as she was one of mom’s dear friends. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, Saskatchewan immediately after, followed by a luncheon at the Free Methodist Church (upper Hall), for family and friends. Pallbearers are all of Vivian’s grandsons & granddaughters. Attendees were invited to join celebration of a life well lived and wear bright colours to honour her! She loved pink and turquoise!
Donations in memory of Vivian may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society 300 - 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5.
