Mary was born in Gosport, England on October 13, 1931 to Charles and Dorothy White. She spent much of her childhood evacuated to the country and was raised by her Aunt Lizzie and Uncle Wag due to the war. Mary married William Schofield in 1956.
She was widowed in 1964 and raised her daughter, Veronica as a single parent. Mary worked as a planner for school meals during those years and in 1974 she immigrated to Weyburn and married Roy Bakken.
Mary worked for many years as a cake decorator at the Weyburn Co-op. She loved gardening and providing her family, friends and neighbours with her bountiful harvests. Grandma’s raspberry jam was especially loved by her grandchildren as was her parcels she sent out to them. Mary as an avid collector and enjoyed displaying her many interests in her home.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Dorothy White; first husband, Bill Schofield (1964); second husband, Roy Bakken (1984); and her brother, Ron White. Mary will be forever loved and missed by her daughter, Veronica (Wayne) Psotka of Scotch Creek, BC; grandchildren: Patrick Psotka of Sydney, Australia; Simon Psotka of New Westminster, BC; Andrea Psotka of Whistler, BC; brother, Paul (Glynis) White of Isle of Wight, England as well as other relatives and friends.
At the request of Mary, a Private Family Service & Interment has taken place at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, Saskatchewan.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Canada at 250 Dundas Street West, Suite 500, Toronto, Ontario M5T 2Z5.
