Judy Ann Carlson born May 30, 1949, passed away on December 13, 2024 at the age 75 years. Judy was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. Her early years were spent in Simmie, Saskatchewan, Spalding, Saskatchewan and then later her family would move to Macoun, Saskatchewan, where she would help her mom in the restaurant and help take care of her brothers.
Later she worked at Cools Q Mart convenience store and also as a maid at the Derrek Hotel in Swan Hills, Alberta when her daughters were small. Judy moved back with her family to Midale, Saskatchewan in 1984, where they were now back to their home roots and close to other extended family. Judy was a homemaker and mother to her girls until she accepted her first babysitting job for a little 3 year old girl. To this day she talked about and often wondered how she grew up, while also raising her daughters.
In 1992 Judy took the Victorian Order of Nursing Care Aide program. This was a big milestone for her, going back to school after all those years. She graduated the program and with her new found knowledge and training and her gentle heart and compassion was ready for this field of work. She got a job as a casual nurse’s aide at Souris Valley in Weyburn where she worked for many years until her back couldn’t take the lifting any longer and she had to leave her job.
After leaving her job she still felt the need to offer care so she provided homecare in her own home. She began looking after ladies that needed around the clock care and supervision and then when that career become too demanding she became a part time babysitter for her own grandchildren. A few years later her mom would need her care also so she would move her mom into her home where she cared for her for a few years until she wasn’t able to provide the care her mom needed.
Judy finally retired from the healthcare field and focused on living life and loved to travel and spend time with her family. Her grandchildren and her great grandchildren were truly her whole heart. Judy was a caregiver her whole life in one way or another with her gentle touch, compassion, sweet soul, soft voice and loving heart she was meant for this field of work.
She truly listened and was genuinely concerned about everyone she ever met. She would share many of her conversations with her family that she had with people or family who she ran into, even the smallest of visits with people. Judy was whole heartedly interested and invested in any conversation, whether it was at Tim Horton's drive thru or with a greeter at Walmart. When she asked “how are you” she really literally truly wanted to know how you were.
Judy would intently listen to every detail about you and wanted to sincerely know how you are doing. She wasn’t scared to visit or ask questions with anyone in passing, even perfect strangers if she felt you needed to talk she would talk or at least say hello. When her family says she would talk to everyone, she really would. Her kind gentle soul and huge heart absorbed all the conversations long or short that she ever had with anyone. Her family wants friends and family alike to know you all hold a special place in her heart. She had so much love she shared with everyone and of course all her fur babies or anyone else’s fur babies, even if it was one sitting in someone’s car. Her children would say "momma / grams you can’t get that close what if that dog bites or mom / grams you can’t just talk to anybody it’s for your own safety" and her reply would always be, WHY NOT? She truly trusted everybody and everything. And maybe everybody and everything just trusted her as she carried such a calm, compassionate, caring energy
Judy made new friends everywhere she went she knew everybody and most of you by name as she would have asked your name somewhere along the way. Her kind soul and gentle heart will be greatly missed by everyone who ever got the chance to cross her path. She was kind, gentle and loving with a genuine heart of gold. She will be immensely missed by family and friends every single day until we meet again. All our love, hugs and kisses.
A note to family and friends and all those who ever met mom. Her wishes were to not have a funeral and her gathering is just for her closest of family. Mom's words to you all and to make sure we passed this along “I don’t want anything big, no funeral just tell everybody I love them all very much and will miss everyone dearly, it’s not goodbye.” Please keep momma in your hearts and memories, her kind gentle soul and heartfelt love will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
