George was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Elizabeth Eckert and siblings, Clem, Ben, John, Irene, Paul and Ron.
George leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 63 years, Lorraine of Pangman, SK; son, Dennis (Bev) Eckert of Regina, SK; son, Wes (Dawn) Eckert of Regina, SK; grandchildren, Devin (Shauna), Nathan (Myranda), Ashley (Rick), Justin (Kayla), Jeremy (Emily), Kurtis (Dominique) and Derek (Margaret); great grandchildren, Kaidin (Erika), Alexa, Kylie, Kendal and Remy; brother, Tony; sisters, Georgina, Gwen, Florence (Donald) and Freida (Jim) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
George was born at St. Josephs Colony to Anton and Elizabeth (Deis) Eckert. He was the third born of 12 children. George’s family moved to Abbey when he was four. They moved to the Pangman area when he was 23. He worked on farms in the area wherever he could find work. George met Lorraine his wife of 63 years when he worked on her family farm. George moved to Regina in 1956, when Lorraine moved to Regina to work at Sears. He worked various jobs in Regina. Lorraine and George got married October 5, 1957 and had two sons. They retired out to Pangman in 1999.
George loved the Blue Jays. Even when his eyesight was going, he still loved to listen to the games. George loved to be outside sightseeing. He was handy at home doing dishes and making his bed every morning. For years he took care of the elderly people in Pangman, mowing lawns and helping wherever he could.
His love of his children and grandchildren was of the utmost importance to him and he would always drop whatever he was doing to chat and laugh with them. He always kept money in his wallet in case anyone of his kids or grandchildren needed some. His grandchildren loved to spend vacations and weekend hanging out with grandpa and grandma in Pangman.
He will be missed but not forgotten.
A Private Family Prayer Service was held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Father Thuy Nguyen celebrating. Interment will take place at a later date. Honourary Pallbearers are George’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.
