

Dorothy Louise Evans (nee:McKague) late of Weyburn, Saskatchewan passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the age of 91 years. She was born on May 7, 1919 on the Hedley McKague homestead farm in Norton RM #69.
Dorothy took her education in Ogema, SK up to grade 12 except Grade 9 when she attended school in Cobourg, ON. Following graduation Dorothy went to Normal school from (1936-1937) and later took several University classes called Primary Methods.
On December 15, 1944 Dorothy married John W. Evans. Together with their family they celebrated Anniversaries every 5 years from their 25th to their 50th.
Dorothy was employed as a teacher at the Wright School Division, Mundie School Norton #69; Hardy, Ellesboro Briercrest, Ogema; Mount Joy, Big Beaver; Ceylon; Weyburn upgrading, Moose Jaw and Briercrest substitute teaching from 1972-1980. She was also involved on the farm and took boarders into her home while living in Ogema.
Dorothy’s hobbies involved being a newspaper correspondent in Ogema, Briercrest and Moose Jaw papers; Prairie Pens Writing Group in Moose Jaw; Wheat weaving; letter writing; reading books and magazines. She loved gardening, boating and fishing in Avonlea, lawn bowling and square dancing in Glasnevin and Weyburn; and was a choir member in Sons and
Daughters of the Pioneers in Moose Jaw.
Dorothy loved to travel and enjoyed trips to the Silver Broom curling in Scotland and Switzerland. She also visited New Zealand, France, Alaska, Holland, Jamaica, Caymen Islands, Wales, Cosumel and other parts of Mexico. She also saw many different parts of Canada and took three different cruises.
In her community Dorothy was involved with the Red Cross; the Public Library; Home and School; CGIT leader; Young People’s Group; Business and Professional Women’s Club and Public Speaking. She organized Nifty 50 Curling Club and a scrabble group which achieved National sanctioned status. Dorothy was also involved in the drama club; lawn bowling and Cosmo club scrapbooks, 55 plus games and enjoyed collecting used stamps for Cancer Research. She was also part of the Zone 3 Provincial Summer games; Saskatchewan Senior’s Fitness Assoc. and publicity for Festival of the Word in Moose Jaw.
Dorothy was a Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher and was very involved in her church. She was also a camp leader, sang in the church choirs in Ogema, Briercrest and Moose Jaw and an active member of the UCW group in Weyburn and Moose Jaw.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Hedley and Florence McKague and husband, John W. Evans.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Janice (Barry) Erno of Pender Island, BC and their children, Shane (Maria) and their children, Hayley, Felicity, Kyya, Devan (Jenny) and their son, Xander; Jim (Darlene) Evans of Rouleau, SK; Doug Evans of Calgary, AB and his children, Holly (Chris) Voros and their children, Keigan and Ayzlin, Jake; brother and sisters, Stuart McKague, Marion Buckler and Margaret Breuer as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM from Ogema United Church, Ogema, Saskatchewan with Sylvia Fitzgerald officiating with interment to follow in Ogema Cemetery, Ogema, Saskatchewan. Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Canadian Red Cross.
