1926 ~ 2018
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Cox on May 21, 2018. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Christian and Elizabeth Jensen; husband, John T. Cox; son, Thomas John Cox; grandson, Jayson Warren Shupe; granddaughter-in-law, Chelse Bell; step great grandson, Jordan Bell; sisters and brother, Mary Jensen, Walter (Vida) Jensen and Grace Jensen; father-in-law, Hugh Cox; mother-in-law, Alice Cox and several brothers and sisters in law. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Glenda (Guy) Shupe of Weyburn, SK; Alice (Wayne) Bell of Kimberley, BC; Cathy (Alan) Flemmer of Calgary, AB; Tom’s spouse, Brenda Geiger; grandchildren, Tana (Dan) Cugnet and their children, David and Isabelle; Tami (Dan) Carlson and their children, Kyla and Lukas, Todd Bell (Cheryl Carson) and children, Tanner, Morganne, Carson and Terrance; David (Rachelle) Flemmer and their children, Garet and Kavin, Amanda (David) Byron and their children, Ben and Lily; Shella Jerome and her children, Alyssa, Amy, Johnathan and Emily; Jamie (Shannon) Geiger and their son, Carston, Terri–Lynn Geiger Schmidt and her children, Brandon and Alyssa; step great great granddaughter, Olivia; sister-in-law, Margaret Cox as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Dorothy was born in Radville, Saskatchewan on June 15, 1926. She grew up in a loving family, the youngest of four children. She attended Mayville School in Radville and later on Weyburn Collegiate. On November 11, 1948 she married John Cox in Weyburn. They started their life together and raised their family on the farm in Halbrite. They celebrated 60 years together before John passed away in 2009. Dorothy’s interests over the years included dancing, sewing, playing cards, softball, bowling, shopping, casino bus trips, summers at Kenosee Lake and travelling. She was a dedicated member of the Community of Christ Congregation in Weyburn. She was also a member of Home & School and Homemakers and contributed time with Meals on Wheels and CNIB canvassing. In 2016 her family was fortunate enough to celebrate her 90th birthday with her. Our memories of Dorothy will remain with us forever as the kindest, most loving, gentle and honest person we ever knew. She will be sadly missed. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Elder Dan Esch officiating. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Pallbearers were Todd Bell, David Flemmer, Tami Carlson, Tana Cugnet, Amanda Byron and Garet Flemmer. Funeral Lunch and Fellowship will follow at McKenna Hall. Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation or Canadian Mental Health.
