Bessie Marie Olson

Late of Regina, SK passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 15th at the age of 85 years. She was predeceased by her husband Alvin in 1985. Bessie is survived by her brother Milton (Ruth); sons Stuart (Ginny), Greg (Carol); her daughter Susan Sutherland (Marvin); grandchildren Anton, Tia, Taylor and great grandson Joshua.

Bessie was the eldest of three children, born to Ole and May Hendrickson. She married her husband Alvin Olson in October of 1953 and by 1956 the two of them started farming in the Lake Alma area; first buying land from Alvin’s dad and later, Bessie’s mother. The early years were very busy raising a young family, breaking land, farming and raising cattle. A few years after Alvin passed, Bessie sold the farm and moved to Weyburn before finally moving to Regina in 2005. Although she was shy and very quiet, Bessie loved to gather with friends and family. She was an ardent Saskatchewan Roughrider fan and enjoyed playing board games and cards where she won far more often than she lost.

Bessie’s family wishes to extend their thanks to the residents of Martin Luther Manor for the years of kindness and friendship their mother enjoyed there. The family is also very grateful for the kind and caring medical support their mother received and would especially like to thank Dr. Salim and Dr. Mahmood at the Allan Blair Clinic in Regina and Dr. Goyal. A very special thank you to Dr. Carol Geddes and Dr. Klein who looked after mom with so much care during her final journey as well as the loving and compassionate staff at Wascana Grace Hospice.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11:00am at the Zion Lutheran Church Weyburn SK with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Maxim SK. Donations in memory of Bessie may be made to the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice 50 Angus Road, Regina SK S4R 8P6.
