Samuel J. Vallera, 87, of Windsor, departed this life to be reunited with his wife, Jeannette (Chagnon) Vallera, on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Sam was born in Hartford to Angeline and John Vallera. Sam was a police officer in Hartford for 26 years and a member of many police organizations. After retirement, Sam returned to his work as a carpenter, working on the Gold Building and Aetna building in Hartford. He then worked 15 years remodeling buildings for an investor. He enjoyed winters in Florida and was known for making his hot peppers. Sam is survived by his children, Tom and his wife, Betty Vallera of Cromwell, John Vallera of West Hartford, Kathy and her husband, James Barletta of West Hartford, his sister, Lorraine Vallera; his grandchildren, Shannon and her husband Mike, Erik and Melissa; his loving great granddaughters; two sisters-in-law, Annette Chagnon and Dale Chagnon, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sam also leaves his loving caregiver, Annie Imbrah. All were affectionately loved by Sam.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Parish (Corpus Christi Church) 601 Silas Deane Hwy., Wethersfield. Interment will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
