Peter J. Forgetta Jr., 82, beloved husband of Julia (Labbadia) Forgetta, for 56 years, entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 6, 2021. Peter was born October 8, 1939 in Hartford and was son to the late Peter J. and Mary (Mingo) Forgetta Sr. Peter grew up in Hartford, graduating from Bulkeley High School in 1957 and went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Bryant College in 1961. From 1961-1967, Peter served as a member of the U.S. Army reserves.
A gentle and loving man he met his beautiful bride Julia in 1961, they married in 1965 and together began their family life in Farmington, Rocky Hill, Wethersfield and Cromwell.
He launched his career at Blum, Kaplan in West Hartford as an Accountant, then as Comptroller for Shepard Steel in Hartford for 10 years. He followed his entrepreneurial spirit creating the Tax Office of Peter J. Forgetta out of his home. A trusted advisor and accountant for over 41 years, he built the business which became Forgetta & Associates Inc. alongside his son Thomas, and daughter Christina and later his granddaughter Nicolette.
Peter had many hobbies which he enjoyed including art appreciation, collecting Lionel trains, woodworking, and of course traveling with his beloved Julia. They found their summer haven in Martha’s Vineyard where they would spend time together with their treasured family and friends. They also enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world.
Without hesitation; his family and his business were his loves. He remained active in Forgetta and Associates until his last days.
Peter was a past President and member of Unico National Wethersfield Chapter, a former President of the National Association of Enrolled Agents as well as a volunteer firefighter for the town of Rocky Hill.
He will be remembered for his kind and gentle heart, contagious smile, loyalty, professional demeanor and being a trusted advisor.
In addition to his loving wife Julia, he is survived by his children; Gina Marie Uricchio and her husband John of Rocky Hill, Thomas S. Forgetta and his wife Margaret, of Wethersfield, Christina Marie Reilly and her husband James of Cromwell. Seven beloved grandchildren Nicolette Forgetta of Newington, Andrew and Anthony Forgetta of Wethersfield, Ally and Johnny Uricchio of Rocky hill, Giuliana and Ella Reilly of Cromwell. His sister, Beverly A. Sipala of Rocky Hill, his brother-in-law Saverio Labbadia of Bristol, Josepina and Valentina of San Paolo, Brazil and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Along with his parents, Peter was predeceased by his in-laws Onorata and Salavatore Labbadia, his brothers-in-law, Rocco, Angelo and John Labbadia, sisters-in-law Maria and Gaspare, Antoinetta and Antonio Davia, sister-in-law Angelina Labbadia, and brother-in-law Salvatore Sipala.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to both the Hartford Hospital and the Conklin Rehab Staff.
A visitation will be held Monday, December 20, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. All friends and family are kindly asked to wear face coverings. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Peter's life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield.
