Paul J. Calvo, 75, of Middletown, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February, 16, 2012 at Hartford Hospital. He was born October 26, 1936 in Hartford and was the son of the late Antonio and Anna (Malinguaggio) Calvo. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Paul was involved in painting from an early age and has been a professional artist for most of his life. He attended Hartford Art School and extended his painting experience in Japan. From 1960 until Spring of 1984, he was Art Director and Teacher at the Institute of Living in Hartford. He exhibited his work in Galleries and juried Art Shows throughout the New England and New York area. He worked with many types of media and techniques, but primarily in oils and his work was best described as Expressionistic. He received numerous awards in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York, and his work can be found in many private collections in the United States and several foreign countries. He owned and operated the Paul Calvo Art Gallery on Main Street in Chatham, MA. since 1984. His paintings were exhibited in the Canton Art Gallery in Canton as well as the Cape Cod Art Association in Barnstable, MA. He was a member of the Gallery 53, Arts and Crafts Association of Meriden. He is survived by his sister, Angie Brancato and husband, Anthony of Rocky Hill, his brother, Frank Calvo and wife, Gail of Berlin, his dear and longtime close friend, Diana Maranzano of East Hartford, nephews and nieces, Stephen DiScipio and wife, Nancy, Thomas DiScipio and wife, Donna, Anthony Calvo and Marisa Calvo, as well as many great nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 9:00AM at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick & St. Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford. The burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield with full military honors. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7 PM at the funeral chapel.
