Merrill "Mel" Charles Bruno, Jr.

Merrill Charles “Mel” Bruno Jr., 66, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully Monday, August 9, 2021, with his loving family by his side. Born in Hartford, May 1, 1955, he was the son of Susan R. (Ventura) Bruno and the late Merrill C. Bruno Sr. Mel was a proud father, son, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He held several work related positions during his lifetime; early on as a painter and carpenter, with his most notable being the 40 plus years he spent as a proud member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local 91 here in CT. In that capacity, Mel became one of the top escalator mechanics in the Northeast Region, devoting over 20 years in the employ of Schindler Elevator. Mel also served as a Den Leader for the Cub Scouts, along with volunteering his time as an assistant coach for several local youth sports teams. When not at work, Mel enjoyed spending his free time with his family, fishing, camping and attending wrestling events. Along with his mother Susan, Mel will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his four children, Leah Pina, Darren, with his wife Carmen, Frank and Jeana; his brother Steven, with his wife Debra; two sisters, Emily Papa with her husband Domenic, and Jackelyn Tavarozzi with her husband Carl; six adored nieces, Brianna and her husband Boris, Bianca, Haley, Ally, Marissa and Juliana; three cherished grandchildren, Jaxon, Harper, and Dalton Pina; special cousins, Mark Burbank, with his wife Sue, Scott Burbank, with his wife Leanne, and Marlene Doyon, with her husband Rob, and their families. The Bruno family wishes to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff of the “ICU” in Middlesex Memorial Hospital, Middletown for their outstanding care and compassion. Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Friday, September 3, 2021 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield.
