Mary Elizabeth (Rusty or Mary Beth) Veronica (Hyde) DeMaio passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 12, 2018. She was born in Hartford, CT on January 23, 1942 and graduated from Mount St. Joseph’s Academy in West Hartford, CT. Mary Beth was the daughter of the late Timothy and Veronica (Purdy) Hyde. She is survived by her loving husband Leonard D. DeMaio of Wethersfield, daughter Robin Bourassa and her husband Michael of Wethersfield, son Leonard and his wife Barbara of Simsbury and daughter Laura Furlotte of Lake Worth, FL. She is also survived by her brother Timothy J. Hyde and sister-in-law Bonnie of Newington. She was predeceased by her brother Michael Hyde. She leaves behind her cherished seven grandchildren, Alexis and Cassidy Bourassa, James, Jacqueline & John DeMaio and Jack & Donovan Furlotte. She also leaves behind her special nieces and their spouses, Elizabeth and Neil Welles of Newington and Allison & Thomas Ganley of Newington. Marybeth was a kind and quiet woman. She was an amazing observer of life, always listening and watching what was happening in the world with never a judgment of anyone or anything. Her husband gave her the nickname “Rusty” because of her stunning red hair, which her friends and family lovingly called her. She had mischievous Irish wit and although quiet by nature, she could zing you with her one-liners when you weren’t expecting it. She worked for many years as the Office Manager for Dr. Richard & Lindarose Berkley office in West Hartford, CT. Mary Beth had the most beautiful and envious handwriting, a skill that was honed with the help of the Sisters at the Mount! She was an avid UConn Women’s Basketball fan along with being a voracious reader, who could devour 3 books in a week. Mary Beth had a wonderful green thumb, always willing to share her “secret” fertilizer concoction to those who wanted it. She was a long time member of Pine Acres Swim & Tennis Club. Packing that Playmate Cooler for her kid’s everyday and cheering them on at Saturday morning swim meets! She delighted in listening to all the stories and updates of her grandchildren, never tiring of hearing of their accomplishments, mundane daily activities and teenage tales of mischief. She also loved getting her daily update of her naughty “grand-dog” Harley’s shenanigans! Mary Beth’s family would like to mention her special friends who made her life so fulfilled over the years. Much love and gratitude goes to Margaret, Diane, Kathy, Sally & Judy. Mary Beth’s family deeply appreciated receiving the utmost care and comfort for their mother from the amazing staff, especially the Nursing and PCA staff at Hartford Hospital.
