Maria (Monaco) Milluzzo 93, of Hartford, beloved wife of the late Sebastiano Milluzzo, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2017. Maria was born on September 19, 1923 in Palazzolo Acreide, province of Siracusa, Sicily, Italy. She was the daughter of the late Santo and Marietta (Caligiore) Monaco. While raising her family mainly as a stay at home mother in the South End of Hartford, occasionally Maria would work at one of the local dress shops in the Hartford area as a seamstress. Maria later worked for many years at Nielsen Tool & Die Co. (which later became Zero Corp) in Hartford as a parts assembler until eventually retiring. She was a member of St. Luke’s Church Rosary Society and the South End Seniors. Maria was extremely devoted to her Catholic faith. During her earlier years she was very active in the church teaching CCD, participating in the choirs and helping coordinate fundraising events for the poor. She continued that devotion after marrying praying the Rosary daily with her husband Sebastiano and always attending Mass and religious festivities. Her true passion was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved all her grandchildren dearly and was very proud of them. Maria was also a devoted sister and loved all her siblings and their families dearly. She had a special bond with her youngest sibling Vincenzo who often expresses “she was a sister and another mother for me” as Maria being the oldest of five brothers and sisters often helped raise the youngest siblings and later she again lovingly took on that role when Vincenzo migrated to the U.S. Maria loved to cook and truly enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her family. She especially loved to bake. Countless family, friends and neighbors have wonderful memories of Maria’s homemade pizza, bread, “Scacciate” (various stuffed breads), ricotta pies, very light and flaky “fritelli” (angel wings), “scutini” and cookies especially her cinnamon and “S” cookies. Maria loved to have fun and never totally lost her childlike sense. She had a most beautiful smile which she displayed very often and a laugh that would often burst out of nowhere and contagiously have everyone else around her also bursting into laughter without even knowing why. She will be dearly missed by her two sons, Salvatore Milluzzo and his wife Norma of Tacoma, WA, and Santo Milluzzo and his wife Alfina of South Windsor; a brother, Vincenzo Monaco and his wife Lucia of Kensington, and their children Santo and his wife Lina of Wethersfield and Maria of Kensington, her brother, Giuseppe Monaco, two sisters, Marianna Fiducia and Vincenza Fiducia all in Italy, six grandchildren Miguela Milluzzo, Lucia Milluzzo Stewart and her husband Jason, Zachary Milluzzo of Tacoma WA, Sebastian Milluzzo, Gabriel Milluzzo and Daniel Milluzzo of South Windsor; great-grandchildren Isabella Michaelson and Luccas Stewart of Tacoma WA. and many nieces and nephews both in Italy and in the U.S.
Funeral services will leave at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017 from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Luke's Church, 66 Bolton Street, Hartford. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours are Friday from 5-7:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Maria’s family would like to thank CCCI of Wethersfield and all of the home health agencies and aides that assisted Maria while being cared for at her home, especially Marge D’Alessandro. The family would also like to thank the doctors and staff at Manchester Memorial Hospital and most especially the staff at Fox Hill Center for their devoted and compassionate care during Maria’s last years.
