Luigina “Gina” (Garzone) Simone, 83, of Newington, beloved wife of Carlo Simone for 62 years, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2019 at home, surrounded by her family. Gina was born on January 8, 1936 in Gravina, Province of Bari, Italy and was the daughter of the late Pietro and Agata (Fumieo) Garzone. Gina immigrated to the United States in 1955. In 1957 she returned to Italy to marry her love Carlo, returning to America to begin their life together, eventually settling in Newington.
Gina was a member of the Mt. Carmel/St. Cristina Society where she and Carlo enjoyed attending social events for many years. They would always be seen gliding around the dance floor and enjoying the company of family and friends. Gina was a wonderful cook and hostess, she loved having everyone surrounding her table while she cooked a delicious meal. Gina always welcomed everyone into her home and at her table. She also loved crocheting, she would create beautiful pieces for her family and friends.
Gina was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, in addition to her husband she will be missed by her beloved children, Angela Crocker and her husband William of Bristol, Agatha Simone of Newington and Michael Simone and fiancé Laura Gancarz of Newington. In addition she leaves her cherished granddaughters, who were truly her heart, Amanda Crocker, Juliet Simone and Katherine Simone.
Gina also leaves her brothers Louis Garzone and his wife Mary of Wethersfield and Michael Garzone and his wife Dawn of Sebastian, FL., and sister-in-law Maria Minichino of Wethersfield. Gina also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
In addition to her parents, Gina was predeceased by her sisters, Eufemia Chiaradia, Rosa Lacapra and her brother Giuseppe Garzone.
Funeral services will leave at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 5th from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Parish (Church of the Holy Spirit), 183 Church Street, Newington. Burial will follow at West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, December 4th from 3-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. A special thank you to her sister-in-law, Maria Minichino for assisting the family with Gina’s care.
