Joseph Michael “Joe” Balzo, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Deborah A. (Schuchman) Balzo, peacefully passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023, with his loving family at his side. Joe was born and raised in Bronx, NY, son of Anne (Coppola) Balzo and the late Domenick Balzo. He attended St. Agnes Catholic High School in Rockville Centre and St. John’s University in Queens, earning his degree in 1968. In 1969, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, proudly serving our country until 1972, at which time he was honorably discharged. After the army, Joe embarked on his banking career, working for the Connecticut Bank and Trust Co., until 1985 and People’s Bank, until 2011. In honor of his Italian heritage, Joe became a longstanding, dedicated member of UNICO National, Wethersfield Chapter, on October 13, 1987, adhering to the motto “Service Above Self”. He was one of the chapter’s longstanding Board of Directors, as well as a Past President. Joe and Deborah were married in 1986 and together they raised a beautiful family. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Joe will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his loving family. In addition to his wife Deborah, Joe leaves his children, Nicholas Balzo and fiancé, Bridgette Costanza, Julianne Geremia and her husband, Matthew; his adored grandchildren, Lyla Grace Geremia and Domenick Joseph Balzo. Joe also leaves his siblings Patricia Hachey and her husband David and Anthony Balzo and his partner Sandra Milo. In addition, his mother-in-law Loretta Schuchman, his brothers and sisters in law Kim and Al Bellanza, Betty Ann Vicital and Bobbie Jo and Ricky Verrone along with beloved nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Balzo family, Wednesday, October 11 from 5 -7pm at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 12 at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Incarnation of Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Attendees are asked to meet directly at church. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave. Hartford.
