Joao “John” Amaral, 82, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Candida Amaral, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2018 with his family by his side. John was born in Nesprido, Portugal on January 27, 1936 and was the son of the late Manuel and Maria Amaral. John was a supervisor at Merrow Machine for many years. He was a longtime devoted member of Our Lady of Fatima Church. John was an avid gardener and he enjoyed watching UConn women’s basketball. John especially loved to be surrounded by his family and friends both here and in Portugal. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his three cherished grandchildren. A loving husband, father and father-in-law, grandfather and friend, he will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, John leaves behind his son David Amaral and his wife Kelly of Glastonbury, his beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Nathan and Victoria who will miss their Papa very much. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Emilia Oliveira and Dores Monteiro.
Funeral services will leave on Monday, May 7th at 9 a.m. from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 44 Kane Street, Hartford, 06106. Burial will follow immediately at Mt. Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, May 6th from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
