Sgt. Jack M. Goldberg, WPD badge #980, 75, devoted husband of Agnes (Coughlin) Goldberg for 51 years, died unexpectedly, Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Hartford Hospital. He was born January 16, 1941 in Hartford and was the son of the late Samuel and Marie (DePaolis) Goldberg. Jack was a graduate of Wethersfield High School, Class of 1959 and attended Manchester Community College, earning an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959-1963, receiving the distinguished American Spirit of Honor Medal. He joined the Wethersfield Police Department in 1962, attaining the rank of Sergeant and serving the town of Wethersfield honorably for 33 years, retiring in 1995. He was also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and he served as a State Marshal for the Hartford Superior Court for eight years. He enjoyed woodcarving and was an exceptional artist of multiple mediums. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. In addition to his loving wife Agnes, Jack is survived by three sons, Michael S. Goldberg and twins, James F. Goldberg and Jack B. Goldberg and wife Jessica; two adored grandchildren, Phallyn and Jack Goldberg; his brother, Frank Goldberg; sisters, Darlene Mattson and Madelyn Goldberg; brother-in-law, Bernard Coughlin and wife Joan; nephews, Kevin, Timothy and Michael Coughlin; beloved sister-in-law, Mary Costa and husband Richard and nephew, Christopher Costa, as well as many former co-workers and friends.
Calling hours are Saturday (September 24) from 3-6 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. Burial with military honors will be private at a later date.
