She was born in Hartford and was the daughter of the late, Michael W. and Harriett (Lentz) Rapoli. Helen lived in Hartford for most of her life. She was a graduate of St. Augustine School and Harford Public High School. Helen was a graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1950. She worked as a Registered Nurse in area nursing homes and assisted living facilities for over 50 years. She lived in Windsor Locks for 28 years and Rocky Hill for several years before moving to Wethersfield. She was a member of the Alumni Association of St. Francis Hospital, the Wethersfield-Rocky Hill Nurses Association, a communicant of the Church of the Incarnation, Wethersfield as well as a member of the Incarnation Alter Society and Women’s Club. Helen was a member of the AARP, and a very active member and volunteer at the Wethersfield Senior Center.
She is survived by her son, Michael J. Vignone, Sr. and wife, Doris of Enfield, grandchildren, Michael J. Vignone, Jr., Alyssa Nicole Vignone and Nicholas R. Vignone; a sister, Lillian DiStasio of Pompano Beach, Florida and a niece, Antoinette Munoz of Wethersfield. She was predeceased by a son, John A. Vignone, Jr.; two brothers-in-law, Anthony DiStasio and Raphael Vignone and three sisters-in-law, Christine Munoz, Angelina Vignone and Anna Maria Pedemonti.
A graveside prayer service will take place at 1:00pm on Monday, November 30th in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date at the Church of the Incarnation, Wethersfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
