His incredible smile was the first thing everyone noticed. He charmed everyone with his warmth, his welcome and his pure love of life. He loved hard work as much as play, but most of all loved to grow things. He made herb gardens, flower gardens and vegetables gardens. He loved to make stone walls, splitting and stacking wood, mowing and raking! Ed also loved four thousand mile road trips with his wife. He spent much of his life with nature and he shone with it. Ed will be forever remembered by everyone who knew him as a great story teller.
Born in Guelph, Canada on November 4, 1934, Ed was one of seven children of the late Charles and Agnes (Zarkain) Ohannesian. He came to the U.S. as a teen to work for family friends. He became a citizen while serving in the U.S. Army. Ed worked for several years for the Glasgow Corporation in Pennsylvania as a superintendent for pipe-lining. He came to Connecticut in the same capacity for the LaMay Company in Old Saybrook. While there, he met and married his beloved wife, Joan (Joni Rau) Ohannesian. He went to work at the Arborio Company in Cromwell, superintending bridge-building. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner as well.
In addition to his cherished wife Joan, Ed leaves his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Pam Rau of FL; nieces, Kimberly Rau of RI, Julie Hale of FL, Jennifer O’Hannesin of Canada and many other nieces in Canada and the U.S. He also will be forever missed by his stepdaughter, Deborah Hill and her family in FL; nephews, Jason Ruimerman of Glastonbury, Alan Ruimerman of CA and Stephen Rau of Middle Haddam, as well as many dear friends.
Funeral services will be private. To celebrate Ed’s life, consider planting something, walking somewhere beautiful, smiling at someone or sharing a story.
