

Dolores (Nelson) Gliwa, 89, beloved wife of Richard F. Gliwa, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2021 at Quinnipiac Valley Center in Wallingford after a long illness. Dolores was born in Middletown on August 4, 1931 and was the daughter of the late Herbert C. Nelson and Marguerite (Southmayd) Nelson Grabek. She was a long time resident of Cromwell and a graduate of Middletown High School. Dolores worked for the Travelers Insurance Corporation until her retirement after many years of dedicated service. She enjoyed reading, needlepoint, sewing and traveling. She was a true nature lover and enjoyed being outdoors, especially picnicking at the beach or in her backyard. Dolores was a member of St. John’s Church in Cromwell.
In addition to her husband of 63 years, Dolores leaves her daughters, Sharon Conaci and her husband Anthony of South Windsor and Carolynne Thomas and her husband William of Cromwell. She also leaves her six cherished grandchildren; Jessica (Timothy) Holder of Gastonia, NC, Scott Judson of Lebanon, TN, Ariane Thomas (Stephen MacDonald) of Iowa City, IA, William Thomas of Cromwell, Erika and Anthony Conaci of South Windsor and her two great-grandchildren; Madison and Bryson Holder of Gastonia, NC. She also leaves her brother, Paul Grabek and his wife Pamela of East Haddam, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Marion and Marvin Gliwa from Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, Marylou and Joseph Gliwa from Massapequa Park, NY., along with, her cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces and great grand nephews.
Dolores was sadly predeceased by her daughter Linda Gliwa and her son Mark Gliwa, her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lynn (Ursula) and Thaddeus Gliwa, Clementine and Walter Wilga and her stepfather John Grabek.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the D’Esopo funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish (St. Elizabeth Seton Church), 280 Brook Street, Rocky Hill. Interment will be at Rose Hill Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill following the church service.
The family would like to thank Quinnipiac Valley Center and especially nurse Sally who Dolores found comfort and companionship during an unprecedented pandemic. The family would also like to thank the Hartford Hospice staff, especially nurses Missy, Sarah, Amanda, Melanie and Chaplin Brian who Dolores found inspiration and comfort from their conversations.
