Dean Michael DeAngelis, 75, of Windsor, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, December 16, 2022. Born in Hartford on January 31, 1947, he was the beloved son of the late Donato “Danny” and Bella (Coiro) DeAngelis and had lived in the area his entire life. Dean attended St. Augustine Grammar School, where he played on the school basketball team and later became their coach. He was a 1965 graduate of South Catholic High School, where he had the distinction of being the first three-letter varsity athlete in the school’s history. He served honorably in the Army National Guard and worked for many years in the scrap metal business. Dean was a coach of women’s softball from 1986 up to this past Summer, and was a member of IAABO Board #6, serving as a basketball referee for 50 years and covering seven State Finals. He enjoyed shooting pool several times a week and played in many tournaments. He was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Lakers and Indianapolis Colts. Most of all, Dean was a beloved brother, uncle, cousin and friend who loved spending time with his family.
Dean will be forever missed by his brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Lois DeAngelis of Glastonbury; his son, Jim DeAngelis of Windsor; his two nephews, Carl DeAngelis and Matthew DeAngelis and wife Sydney; his godmother, Rose Hall and his goddaughter, Kelly O’Connor. He is also survived by several generations of loving cousins, as well as many dear friends from his years as a coach and referee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Avenue, Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
