Claude Emile Thibeault, 93, of Newington, former longtime resident of Wethersfield and loving husband to the late Marcia Ann (Hernes) Thibeault, peacefully went to be with Marcia, Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2022. Claude was born on June 7,1929 in Lewiston, ME, one of three sons to the late Percy and Emilienne (Gastonguay) Thibeault. He was educated in Hartford schools, graduating from Hartford Public High School, Class of 1947. Claude continued his education, earning his Bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University, then his Master’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He served our country proudly in the Army, where he was honorably discharged.
Claude was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for over 30+ years. He was a design engineer, and holder of several design patents. Outside of work, Claude was quite active. He was an accomplished artist and woodworker, specializing in carving eagles from blocks of wood. He loved traveling the world with Marcia and friends, but especially loved his time in Cape Cod each summer with his family and his walks on the beach. A very active and devout Catholic, Claude was a longtime communicant and Eucharistic Minister of Sacred Heart Church, Wethersfield and the recipient of “The Archdiocesan Medal of Appreciation” by the Most Reverend Daniel A. Cronin, S.T.D. on May 26, 2002. He volunteered for Hartford Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and Friendly Visitors, where he would visit shut-ins and take those in need to doctor appointments. Claude was most proud of his ability in taking care of Marcia when she was ill and keeping her in the comfort of their home.
During their 59-year marriage, Claude and Marcia raised three loving children who survive Claude and will forever remember him. Two daughters and a son, with their spouses, Anne and David Platt in Glastonbury, Jean and Charles Davidson in Lake Bluff, IL, and John and Mary Thibeault in Wethersfield; nine adored grandchildren, Michael, Elizabeth, Andrew (Elizabeth), Laura (Brian), Charles (Christine), Karen, Aimee (David), Christopher, and Jessica and four cherished great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Kate, Cameron, and Mackenzie. In addition, he is survived by a brother, Paul Thibeault in Windsor and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Marcia and parents, Claude was predeceased by a brother and two sisters-in-law, Donald and Joyce Thibeault, and Judy Thibeault. The Thibeault family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to Claude’s very special friend and live-in caregiver for the last 18 months, Abdukakhkhor “David” Umarov for all his dedication and loving care extended to Claude. The family also thanks the staff at Cedar Mountain Commons, where he made his home for the last eight years.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Thibeault family, Saturday, December 10, at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at which time a Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Village Cemetery, Marsh St., Wethersfield.
