

Carmela DiMauro, 93 of East Hartford, beloved wife of the late John DiMauro, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2018 at Hartford Hospital. Carmela was born on May 24, 1925 in Floridia, Province of Siracusa, Sicily, Italy and was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Paola (Scalora) DiMauro. Carmela met the love of her life, John DiMauro during WWII in Sicily. They married in 1950 and enjoyed more than fifty years together. Shortly after their marriage, they decided to come to America where they started their family. Together they worked hard and achieved the American dream while enjoying their family and friends.
Carmela had a special talent for gardening, she took pride in growing her own vegetables and adorned her yard with beautiful flowers and plants. In addition, she was a fantastic cook, using her homegrown ingredients, she created the most delicious gourmet dishes that she loved to share. Her culinary skills were enjoyed by all those who knew her and her recipes will be passed down for generations to come. She was also a gifted seamstress both at home and professionally. Sewing was a skill she acquired in her younger years in Sicily and she enjoyed her entire life. Carmela never really lost that spark that dulls in some with age and she will always be remembered and missed for her unique personality.
Her true devotion was her family, a dedicated wife and mother her passing leaves a tremendous loss in the hearts of her children. Her daughter Mary Jones and her husband, Burt of East Hartford, and her son, Joe DiMauro and his wife Margaret "Maggie" of John's Creek, GA. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren, Sara, Jessica and Tess, they will miss their Grandma Millie very much. Carmela also leaves her sisters Angela Valentini and Tita Mineo, brothers Giuseppe DiMauro and Paolo DiMauro along with several family members. In addition to her husband and parents, Carmela was predeceased by her siblings, Nunzia Romano, Giovanni DiMauro, Giuseppa Volante, Salvatore DiMauro and Sebastiano DiMauro. Carmela is now reunited with her beloved son Paul DiMauro.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5-7 at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. Funeral services and burial will be private.
