Barbara (Matthews) Gouin-Trudeau, of Meriden died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday (November 9, 2005). She was born in Hartford on December 11, 1929 to the late Theodore R. and Cora Matthews. In 1948 she married Leo E. Trudeau. She mothered four children, David and his wife Sandra of East Otis, MA, Richard of Meriden, Paul and his wife Barbara of Vermont, and daughter, Judith of Southington. She is the grandmother of Stacy, Teddy, Cheryl, Paul, Jr., Scott and Jessie and the great-grandmother of Nicholas. She is also survived by her brother, Theodore R. ""Bunky"" Matthews, Jr. of Collinsville, a sister, Patricia and her husband David Ritz of Rocky Hill, nephews, Steven and Jason and nieces Carol, Debbie, Denise, and Amy. She was predeceased by a niece, Laurie. Barbara enjoyed life and family and will be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Barbara's close friend and cousin Joan Filkins for her effort and compassion and to the staff at Haven Healthcare in Cromwell, VNA Hospice of East Hartford and to Barbara's physician; Dr. Kathleen Sorcinelli. The funeral is Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 56 Hartford Ave. Wethersfield. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. The family will receive relatives and friends TODAY from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
