Angelo John Scacca, our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather of 93 years passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Angelo was born on May 16, 1930, to Carlo Scacca and Lucy (LoGiudice) Scacca of Hartford.
In addition to his parents, Angelo was predeceased by Jennie (Pietro) Scacca, his wife of fifty years, his sister Olivia (Scacca) DeRosa, her husband Richard DeRosa and his oldest daughter Andrea (Scacca) Capo.
Angelo was always known for his strong, humble and quiet sense of family, faith and hard work.
Together Angelo and Jennie raised five children in Wethersfield, Andrea, Carla, Lauren, Charles and Christopher. They built a beautiful, warm and welcoming household for their children, their spouses, their friends, and relatives, as well as their wonderful neighbors.
Angelo meant so much to so many people growing up in Hartford. His early years were spent working with his parents at their Clay Hill Market store on Albany Avenue, later managing the D’Aprile Package store on Franklin Avenue and finally working part-time in retirement at Bliss Market in Wethersfield.
Angelo’s commitment to his faith and charity was always a huge part of his life while serving as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick and St. Anthony Church for many years, St. Luke’s Church of Hartford and more recently Incarnation Church of Wethersfield. He administered to many who could not attend mass and was a longtime member of the Legion of Mary as well as numerous other religious organizations. Angelo received the 2016 Archdiocesan Saint Joseph Medal of Appreciation, bestowed on him by the archbishop for his years of dedicated service while working at St. Luke’s Church.
Angelo is survived by his son-in-law Alex Capo and wife Joanne, his daughter Carla Hankard and husband James, daughter Lauren Miele and husband James, son Charles Scacca and wife Kathy and son Christopher Scacca and wife Roseanne along with 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
We would like to send our love to our father’s special friend, Pam Romano. With her love and caring heart, Pam provided meaning to our father’s later years and will always be a part of our family.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Incarnation Church of Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield on Monday, October 2, at 10:00 a.m. A private burial will follow at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, our family would suggest contributions to your favorite charity in Angelo’s name.
