Alayne C. (Strapp) Campbell, 82, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 19, 2023. She was born on March 4, 1941 in Hartford. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward J. Strapp and May (Hagerty) Strapp and her beloved husband, Douglas Campbell who passed away on January 27, 2012.
Alayne attended St. Thomas the Apostle parochial school for her elementary education, Sedgewick Middle School and graduated from Hall High School in 1958. She resided in West Hartford until her marriage in 1962 when she moved to Charleston, South Carolina with her husband, who was stationed there in the Navy. She worked for the VNA for 32 years. Alayne was a member of the Church of the Incarnation Women’s Club and Faith Sharing Group for many years.
She leaves to mourn her children, Douglas J. Campbell with his fiancé Charlene Barber and Scott A. Campbell. Alayne was a loving and attentive mother who never missed any of her sons’ sporting or musical events. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Douglas J. Campbell, Jr., Joseph A. Campbell, and Julie Brittany (Campbell) Navedo and husband Jose and her great-grandson, Joseph Navedo, all of whom she doted on. Also mourning her passing are her sister, Marilyn Gilbert; her brother, Edward J. Strapp, Jr. and wife Linda; sister-in-law, Linda Strapp, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, James R. Strapp and brother-in-law, Richard Gilbert. The family would like to thank her devoted caregiver, Margaret, of Polish Helping Hands.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 25 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation of Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
