With great sadness we are sharing the loss of our beloved father, William Peter Simon, who passed away on Friday, October 21st, at the age of 95 at his home in the Township of Washington, New Jersey. Willie, as he was known to his family, was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 8, 1927 to Fred and Amelia (Thomas) Simon.
In 1945, Willie joined the United States Army where he became a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne serving at Fort Bragg. During his long life, Willie wore many hats: an embroiderer, taxicab driver, DPW for the Twsp. Of Washington, where he also served as a volunteer fireman, and later as a bus driver for New Jersey Transit.
Willie is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Vera, and his siblings Fred Simon and Margaret Bianco. Willie is survived by his daughter Valarie Troiano, her husband Michael, his daughter Darlene Buonadonna, and her husband John. He was a loving grandfather to Vanessa, John, Carl (Jen), Christopher, and Kevin, and a great grandfather to Luke and Julien, who along with his daughters were the greatest joy of his life. Willie is also survived by his sister Helen Mascolo and his many nieces and nephews.
Willie loved socializing, watching old movies, playing cards, listening to music, dancing, and traveling. He will always be remembered for his love of life, adventurous spirit, and the joy he brought to others.
Funeral arrangements have been made by Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road,Westwood, New Jersey. Viewing will be on Friday, November 11th from 1-4 pm and 6-8 pm. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be on Saturday, November 12th at 10 am at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 69 Valley Street, Hillsdale, New Jersey.
