William Eason Schaefer, age 76, of Park Ridge, New Jersey passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022. William, best known as “Bill” and “Schaef” earned a degree in economics at Marietta College. During his time in the army, he served in South Korea during The Vietnam War. Shortly after, William volunteered as an EMT at his hometown Teaneck, New Jersey. When discovering his interest in medicine, William decided to study nursing and paramedics which he earned a degree from Essex Community College. After graduation, he worked as an Emergency Department RN at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey for many years. Later he worked as an evening shift charge nurse in the emergency room at Bergen Regional in Paramus, New Jersey. Prior to retirement, William was a facilities manager at Alpine Learning Group in Paramus, New Jersey.
During his retirement, William spent time with his daughter, Season, son-in-law, Jeffrey, and friends. He volunteered at a post-transplant group’s events and meetings with wonderful heroes like him. He attended Maranatha Church of the Nazarene in Paramus where he volunteered at the video and tape ministry. William will always be remembered as a kind and thoughtful person. Most importantly, he was an inspiration.
William is survived by his daughter, Season Schaefer-Smith and son-in-law, Jeffrey Smith; the late uncle Robert “Bob” Morrison and his wife Mary “Newt” Morrison, cousin Jim Morrison and his wife Jennifer and their daughter Jacquelyn Taylor, son-in-law Evan and their daughter Emma, and their son, Jacin Morrison; cousin Lynn Goodale and her husband Mason, and their sons Eason and Levi; sister-in-law, Diana Vittorio, and nephews Matthew Plotkin, Brandon De Leonardo, brother-in-law John Vittorio and his wife Jill, niece Megan Mulligan and her husband Brendan. A memorial service will be held at Maranatha Church of the Nazarene in Paramus, New Jersey sometime in the near future and will be live online.
