Walter Bargmann went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 23, 2018. He was a resident of Emerson, New Jersey for 53 years and grew up in Brooklyn, NY and Westwood, NJ. Walter was born on September 2, 1942 to Harry Bargmann and Louise (Bischoff) Bargmann in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Westwood High School in Westwood, New Jersey, graduating in 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy for 3 years and was honorably discharged in 1963. He married the love of his life, Marcia Jane Heseltine, on December 25, 1964 in Westwood, New Jersey. Walter and Marcia celebrated over 53 years of marriage.
Walter and his brother Harry took over the family business from their parents, Strunck’s Delicatessen in Westwood, NJ and continued to manage the favorite local eatery until he sold the business and retired in 2005. He truly loved managing the deli and the staff there, but mostly loved the opportunity it gave him to share the love of Jesus Christ with all of his customers.
With his passion for God and people, Walter was a church elder for several years, first at Pascack Bible in Hillsdale, NJ and then more recently at Times Square Church in New York City. Walter and his wife Marcia were actively involved in many ministries and touched the lives of countless people with the love of Christ. He enjoyed playing tennis (often with those many years his junior). He loved his family and friends dearly.
Walter loved the Lord with all he had and also loved sharing that love with pretty much everyone he came in touch with. He leaves a legacy of overwhelming love, grace, faith and fun. His family rejoices in his heavenly homecoming, but will miss him dearly. They are grateful that God has been gracious, even in Walter’s passing and are comforted to know that they will one day be with him again because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Walter is survived by his wife, Marcia Jane Bargmann; two sons: Keith and Brian
Bargmann; two daughter-in-laws: Susan (Palmer) Bargmann and Lauren (Sutula) Bargmann; his sister, Barbara Morchen; grandchildren: Nathanael, Josiah, and Benjamin Bargmann; extended family Thomas, Loretta, Tabitha, and Michaela Busch.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harry Bargmann.
A service celebrating Walter’s life and faith will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Becker Funeral Home (219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ 07675). Family will be available to receive friends starting at 10:30 am, the service will start at 12:00 noon.
In addition, a memorial service to honor Walter’s life and ministry will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 during the 1:00 pm worship service at Times Square Church (West 51st and Broadway, New York City).
