Stanley was born in Yorkville, New York in the year of the great depression, 1928. He lived on First Avenue and 86th Street with his parents in a building that his grandfather owned. They had no heat except a coal-burning stove. They eventually moved to another building and his Aunt and Uncle came to live with them until they could find their own place. In his words, “That’s what family is all about, helping in time of need.”
In June of 1949, while visiting Belle Harbor Rockaway, he met his beautiful bride, Leatrice. They married in 1952 and in 1964 moved to Nanuet. They have four children, Martin Bell of Nanuet, Sherry Guglielmo of Hawthorne, Risa Hoag of Westwood, New Jersey, and Richard Bell of Airmont.
Stanley graduated from Haaren High School and the Delehanty Institute. He started his own TV repair business in the Bronx in 1951, Belco Distributors, repairing console television sets and radios. Belco then became one of the biggest sellers of business band radios on the east coast for the gypsy cab services in the 80’s.
He rode an Indian motorcycle and then a Harley Davidson. He also loved riding horses. He was a private pilot and had his own single-engine plane which he flew out of the airport in Nanuet. He loved to draw and paint and leaves behind many works for the family to enjoy.
Stanley was known for his easy-going style and friendly demeanor. He enjoyed spending time with his children and great-grandchildren. Stanley is survived by his children, Martin, Sherry, Risa and Richard, daughters-in-law Brenda and Theresa, son-in-law Bill, seven grandchildren, Eric, Gary, Chris, Kelley, Samantha, Tim, and Nicholas, and two great-grandchildren Maxwell and Benjamin.
Our dad will live on in our hearts and souls as we honor his memory every day by spending time with family, working hard, and enjoying our creative pursuits.
