On September 14, 2022, Sandra Griffin danced off to the stars leaving her loving family, Beverly Griffin (Mom), Richard Griffin (Dad), and Cheryl Griffin (sister), two devastated fur babies (Nashie and Gypsy), and many, many heartbroken aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends.
As an artist, Sandra took much pride in her craft. After graduating from The School of Visual Arts, she went on to help restore some of New York City’s most iconic buildings including The Plaza Hotel, the Empire State Building and the Sixth Street Community Synagogue. She also started her own business, Inspired Surfaces.
Later, she earned a Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation at Pratt University, with the intention of working internationally to help restore UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Although the illness and surgery that followed left her right arm severely compromised, Sandra, always the determined artist, did not let it stand in the way of her passion and work. She helped a longtime friend with the overall design of his new business, Rockin’ Roots in Hillsdale, New Jersey. From the menus to the interior murals, Sandy’s handiwork is on display at the cafe. She also persevered professionally, and completed what would become her final restoration project - the Tappan Reformed Church in Tappan, NY.
Sandy’s creativity was not limited to her career. She was also an accomplished self-taught cook, who would often lovingly prepare meals for her family and friends.
Above all, Sandy was a loyal and committed friend. Children and animals were especially receptive to her natural charm and gentle, sweet spirit. Even when faced with impossible odds, Sandy never let anything negative define her life. She continued living it to the fullest, and traveled often.
No matter what she was going through, Sandy was never without a smile on her face.
Although Sandy’s life ended before we were ready, the time she spent in our lives was inspiring, memorable and full of joy. We will love her until the end of time.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to these worthy causes that San loved so much.
