It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard J. Lauricella, who passed away on December 28, 2022, at the age of 69. He had a personality that filled the room.
Richard was predeceased by his mother, Rose Lauricella, his father, Edward Lauricella, and his brothers, Robert, Hank, and Ralph Lauricella, and his mother-in-law Agnes Gazverde. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lauricella, whom he was so deeply in love with,
his daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Alex Povella, Laura and Dom Imperioli, Lisa and Jerry Malota, and Debra Kane. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Richard Parente, and his brother Edward and wife Shari Lauricella, and his sister-in-law Peggy Lauricella, as well as his dog, Marley, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Richard was a loving grandfather to Lindsey Aleo, Michael Kane, Christian Malota, Matthew Kane, Alex Povella, Chelsea Malota, Nicholas Imperioli, Jacqueline Kane, and Zachary Malota, and he was also a great-grandfather to Henry Aleo. Richard had a varied and diverse work experience, including stepping in at an early age to run his dad's grocery store in Harlem, working as an installer at Cablevision, and serving as a manager at Ecker Windows and Lanzo Construction. He retired from the Broward County aviation department, where he oversaw an extensive expansion of the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, including the first elevated runway in the United States. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he was also a self-taught early adopter of technology inside and outside the workplace. In his free time, Richard loved being with family and was a passionate sailboat and motorboat enthusiast.
Despite a long, hard battle with heart disease, Richard remained surrounded by family while he peacefully passed away listening to one of his favorite bands Taj Mahal. Family was the most important thing in his life, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
