Paul Duhamel passed peacefully at his home in River Vale, NJ, on January 1, 2021 at the age of 77, surrounded by his beloved wife, Joanne, and his 4 children. Paul was married to Joanne for 54 years. Paul and Joanne initially lived in Brooklyn, NY, before settling down in River Vale, NJ where they lived for 48 years and raised their 4 children. Paul is survived by his son Thomas Duhamel, Hoboken, NJ, and his 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Kathleen and Randy Voorhees of Ridgefield Park, NJ; Nadine and Tim Shea of Hillsdale, NJ; and Meredith and Matt Winchell of Westwood, NJ. Paul was a longtime volunteer in River Vale with the baseball and softball organizations and coached numerous hockey, baseball, and softball teams. He also served for many years as a volunteer on the Juvenile Conference Committee in River Vale.
Paul was proud grandfather to his 4 grandsons: Jimmy and Ryan Shea and Cooper and Jackson Winchell. He loved spending time with his grandsons and driving them to their baseball and basketball games. He also loved when his family vacationed together in Turks and Caicos where he could swim, snorkel, and watch the sunset with everyone. Paul also enjoyed traveling with his wife Joanne and family to Italy and Hawaii and searching for perfect beaches in the Caribbean.
Paul was born on June 7, 1943 in Staten Island, NY to the late Stephen and Dorothy Duhamel. He is survived by his younger sister, Dorothy O’Neill and his older brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Suki Duhamel.
Paul had many friends who he enjoyed playing golf with, and many cousins, cousins-in-law, who he enjoyed hosting at the holidays. Paul was dedicated to his daily fitness routine and spending time drinking coffee with the guys at Dunkin Donuts. Paul also loved going to Rockland Bakery on Sunday mornings, drinking red wine and driving his ’62 Chevy Convertible.
He graduated from Xaverian High School and attended Staten Island Community College. Paul proudly served in the US Army and was Honorably Discharged. Paul worked in the telecommunications industry before retiring from AT&T in 1998, and then again from Orange in 2012. Paul was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. John the Baptist, Hillsdale, NJ.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 from 4:00 – 5:30 pm at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ. A Mass celebrating Paul’s life will be held at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 69 Valley Street, Hillsdale, NJ on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 10:00 am. A private burial will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
