Nancy was born and raised in New Milford, NJ graduating from New Milford High School in 1983. She went on to study Economics and Education at Rutgers University graduating in 1987. After a career working in the royalties department at BMG music, Nancy returned to her love of teaching. Nancy was a passionate educator who taught elementary and middle school mathematics for over twenty years in the Paterson, NJ school district where in 2008 she earned the Teacher of the Year award. As a teacher, she impacted hundreds children’s lives and took great pride in their future successes.
Nancy is predeceased by her father, Angelo DeSalvo, her husbandFederico Fermin and her sister in law Susan DeSalvo. She is survived by her loving mother Kathleen DeSalvo; her devoted sister and brother along with their spouses, Colleen DeSalvo and Cesar Rivera and Angelo and Danielle DeSalvo. She was a loving aunt to her niece and four nephews: Angelo Jr., Aidan, Mateo, Dominic and Lucia. She is also survived by the Fermin family, including Federico Jr., his wife Patty and their son, Federico Ethan; her godmother, Lynn Bothe and many cousins and friends. Nancy loved being with family and friends with whom she created so many wonderful memories that they will cherish forever.
In lieu of flowers the DeSalvo family will be establishing a scholarship in Nancy’s name. They are asking for your future support in their effort to remember Nancy with this scholarship fund. It is the family’s goal to honor her memory by supporting students who display leadership, exemplary character, involvement in community service and who also have been impacted by cancer.
A visitation for Nancy will be held Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ 07675. A funeral mass will occur Monday, November 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Joseph R.C. Church, Elm Street, Oradell, NJ 07649.
