Millie was born in Worcester, Massachusetts to the late Mildred and Carl Halter on April 15, 1941. She grew up in Worcester with her late brother Carl. Later, she moved to New Jersey and attended Clifton High School where she was a member of the class of 1959.
Millie went on to work at Evans Food Service of Moonachie where she met her husband of 53 years, Edward Evans. In a time of inequality and lack of female representation at a boardroom level, Millie’s ambition and self-belief would lead her to become an executive of the company and later a co-owner. Ed and Millie were married in 1972, and she retired in 1993.
Millie was also involved in local endeavors as the Director of Recreation in Washington Township from 1982-1986. She was instrumental in helping to declare open spaces and overdevelopment in town with the Green Acres program.
Millie was a breast cancer survivor and was persistent in her struggle with diabetes. Prior to her health complications, she enjoyed traveling and deeply cherished summer vacations with her family in Cape Cod, MA and Cape Hatteras, NC. She loved seeing new places and sharing stories of her travels to Italy and Australia.
She was a devoted wife, mother, stepmother and a loving grandmother, an excellent listener and a wise mentor. Millie’s laughter and love will be missed but will live on in all she knew.
She is survived by her husband Edward; Children, James (Laura) Evans of River Vale, NJ, Jodi (William) McSpedon of Lewes, DE, Cheryl (Joseph) Cooper of Twp of Washington, NJ, Wendy Schenk of Phoenix, AZ, Theodore (Therese) Evans of Woodcliff Lake, NJ; grandchildren: Michael Evans; Ryan, Kyle and Riley McSpedon; Melissa, Christopher, Andrew and James Evans; Dustin and Derrick Dluy; Matthew, Mackenzie and Megan Evans.
