Kathleen M. Whelan

WHELAN, Kathleen (nee McQueeney) 85, longtime resident of Cresskill and Township of Washington, NJ, most recently of Warwick, RI entered into eternal rest on June 16, 2022 with her family around her. Loving mother of Kathleen Scapp and her husband Mark, Maureen and Colleen Whelan. Adored grandmother of Julia Scapp. She is also survived by her brother Thomas J. McQueeney, Jr. of Ansonia, CT, eight loving nieces and nephews, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. She is predeceased by Charles R. Whelan, her beloved husband of 44 years and her parents Thomas J. McQueeney, Sr. and Doris (Benoit) McQueeney.

Kathy graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Bridgeport in 1959 and worked at the VA Hospital in West Haven, CT - eventually as head duty nurse on 4W. Kathy moved to New Jersey in 1965 after she and Charlie married. She stayed home to raise the girls and returned to nursing at Charlie's podiatry office for 15 years before they retired together. She cared for family, friends, and patients all her life and helped many in need.

The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Thursday, June 23rd from 5:00 to 7:00pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at the Church of the Presentation, 271 W. Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, NJ on Friday, June 24th at 10AM. Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org), ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, would be appreciated.
