Joseph Pino, 81, of the Township of Washington,(Bergen) NJ passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born January 12, 1934 in Trieste, Italy to Carmine and Anna (nee Iacomino) Napolitano.
Joseph came to the United States when he was 15 years old. Shortly after that he met his future wife Marie at Seward Park High School. The moment she set eyes on the handsome young man who would be her algebra tutor was the moment a beautiful love story began.
Joseph graduated City College with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Columbia University. He became a partner with SNS Architects and Engineers in 1959 where he worked until December 2014. He served as member and on the Board of Governors for numerous business, banking, educational and philanthropic organizations. He served as President of the Montvale Business Association and was honored as Man of the Year by the March of Dimes. He received many professional honors and awards during his career and much of his work has been recognized nationally and internationally.
He was also a professional saxophone player. He enjoyed boating and traveling. He was an avid reader and could always be found with a book in hand. Books about World War II and the Roman Empire were particular favorites. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of White Beeches Golf and Country Club for 35 years. He was also a member of Naples Lakes Golf and Country Club in Naples, Florida where he enjoyed his home there with family and friends. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family whom he loved deeply and took care of each and every day of his life.
Joseph was the quintessential gentleman always. He was wise, gracious, selfless, kind and generous.
He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Marie (nee Torrisi). Loving and devoted father to Michelle Napolitano of Bedminster, NJ, Paula Sodora (August) of Mahwah, NJ and Steven (Claire) Napolitano of Mahwah, NJ. Loving grandfather of ten cherished grandchildren Lisa, Chrissy and Joseph Ventura, August, Paul and Gina Sodora and Isabella, Gabriella, Christina and Steven Joseph Napolitano. Dear brother of Carmine and Mario Napolitano and Rachel Formisano.
The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Friday, June 19, 2015 from 3pm-8pm. The funeral mass celebrating Joseph’s life and faith will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church 668 Ridgewood Road, Township of Washington, NJ at 10:00am. Entombment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery Mausoleum, Mahwah, NJ.
