POST, John L., 89, of Hillsdale, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, October 6, 2017. John is survived by his dear children, Carol Ewald and her husband Harold and David and his wife Toni; grandchildren, Catherine Ewald and her husband Joseph Exley, Alice Ewald and her husband Robert “Nick” Hall, Eric and Andrew; great grandchildren, Fiona Ewald Exley and Roan Hall; as well as his brother, Ed and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Irene (nee Terhune) and his sisters, Edith and Elvoida.
John began his career with Bendix in Teterboro, NJ as a Parts Expeditor Manager for over 20 years before switching his career to real estate. John was a real estate broker and appraiser for more than 40 years. Highly regarded by his peers, he served as President of the Pascack Valley Board of Realtors and later, after facilitating a merger of three separate Realtor Associations, he was named President of the new RealSource Association of Realtors. He remained on that Board of Directors until retirement.
Mr. Post was highly regarded by all who knew him – partially evidenced by the many professional groups that sought his expertise. Mr. Post served several years as a Director of the New Jersey Multiple Listing Service and as a member of the Equal Opportunity and Fair Housing Council of Bergen County. He held the position of President of the Bergen County Chapter of Independent Fee Appraisers. He was also appointed to several National Association of REALTORS (NAR) national committees and was a NAR National Director for several years. NAR honored him by naming him a Realtor Emeritus for his 50 years of service to the REALTOR community.
John was a devout parishioner of The Harrington Park Community Church, attending worship there for over 75 years. He was a member of the Chancel Choir for several years, sharing his joy and faith through the singing of hymns. John immensely enjoyed all musical aspects of holiday services and was particularly moved by the hand bell choir. You could find him on any given Sunday in one of the front pews.
The family will receive guests at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Rd, Westwood, NJ on Thursday, October 12 and Friday, October 13, from, 3-8pm. A celebration of life will be held at the Harrington Park Community Church on Saturday, October 14 at 11am, with interment at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ to follow.
