John Francis Ahearn was born in Norwich Connecticut in 1931 to Lawrence J. and Elizabeth (McVeigh) Ahearn. He was the middle brother of five brothers: Lawrence, Richard, Raymond (Cuffy), and Robert (Emmet). After high school he attended Cooper Union, graduating with a degree in Graphic Art. He proudly volunteered to serve our country, joining the Army Second Division Signal Core and served in Korea. After the war, he met the love of his life Marguerite Fitzgibbon (Ahearn) whom he married in 1960 (died in 1999). John worked in advertising in NYC for many years. He was an award winning artist, who enjoyed photography and watercolors, pastels and the occasional oil. He taught art at Emerson and Ridgewood. John also truly enjoyed playing and watching golf, beginning when he was a 12 year old caddy at the Norwich Country Club. Later in life, he played as much golf as he could. John enjoyed sports NJ Devils, Boston Red Socks, and attending NY Giant Football Games (he was a season ticket holder since 1959). John led a full life, he enjoyed collecting art, golf, and pop up books, going to art shows, garage sales & auctions, and antique markets. He loved spending lots of time with his family including going on vacation to Ireland, Alaska, Canada, Washington and California. He was also known for his quick wit and incredible sense of humor..
He is survived by his children A. John (and Kathleen), Lawrence (and Alayne), Thomas, and Brian (and Donna). He is also survived by his grandsons Scott, Jeremy, Nathaniel, Sean and Joseph. He is survived by his brother Robert and Helen Ahearn, Sister-in-Law Iris Ahearn (brother Raymond Ahearn), Sister in Law Kay Fitzgibbon (sister of his spouse Marguerite). He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins.
