James Maher, a resident of Blauvelt, passed away on June 12, 2020 at the age of 81. Jim was born in the Bronx to James and Mary Dooley Maher. He was a proud graduate of St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School and Manhattan College. Jim had a long career with MetLife, retiring after 38 years of service.
Throughout his life, Jim was devoted to his faith, family and friends. Jim was an active parishioner of St. Catherine’s Church and proudly served as a lector for decades. Jim also volunteered his time to support youth activities including the Blauvelt T-shirt League, St. Catherine’s CYO Basketball Program and the CYO Teen Club. Jim enjoyed reading and gardening. He was a passionate fan of all sports, particularly of the New York Giants and the New York Yankees.
Jim is predeceased by his wife Marion. Jim is survived by his children, Maureen (Joseph) Mitru, Kathleen (William) Scherf, Anne (George) Schlinck and James (Eileen) Maher; grandchildren Mairead, Daniel and Kiera Mitru, Jennifer (Ryan) Klafehn, Kathryn and Matthew Scherf, George and Thomas Schlinck, James, Timothy and Gillian Maher and his cherished great-granddaughter Eden Klafehn. Additionally Jim is survived by his brother William of Port St. Lucie, Florida and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
