25, 2022. Gerald Gottlieb Kasper was born on October 26,1934 in New York City.
Gerald, one of identical twin sons born to George Kasper and Sally (Plotkin) Kasper,
grew up in the Yorkville section of Manhattan,
Gerald attended all levels of his education in Manhattan. He attended Aviation High
School prior to enlisting in the United States Air Force. Following training at different
military bases in the U.S., Gerald was deployed to Korea in 1953 where he served as a
Crew Chief. Upon his return from Korea, Gerald served as a Flight Engineer whose
duties included towing targets for USAF aircraft and U.S. Army artillery batteries
throughout the eastern part of the United States.
After his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1956, Gerald attended New York
University School of Education where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in
Health and Physical Education. He also continued with his Masters degree studies.
Gerald married his devoted wife Josephine (Vespucci) Kasper in 1964. They resided in
Manhattan, and moved to Queens, NY. They decided to move to Rockland County, NY
in 1976 with their daughter, Sophia.
Gerald was a well-respected and beloved Health and Physical Education teacher and
colleague at Robert F. Wagner Junior High School in Manhattan for over 30 years. He
was also involved in continuing education with after school, evening and summer
programs throughout his school district. Gerald served as a teacher and one of the
administrators at Stuyvesant High School’s evening adult programs.
Gerald had many varied interests and hobbies including sports, reading, art, history and
botany.
Gerald is survived by his wife Josephine, daughter Sophia (Kasper) Poggi, her
husband, Christopher, grandsons Michael and William, and twin brother Robert.
A viewing will be held at Becker Funeral Home in Westwood, NJ on January 4th from
9:30-10:30 am. Following the viewing, Gerald will be laid to rest at Calverton National
Cemetery at 1:00pm, where a military service will be performed. In lieu of flowers, his
family requests contributions made in Gerald’s memory to the Veterans of Foreign Wars
(VFW).
