On Thursday, 6/29 we lost Gary Jones aka "Popeye". He was born in Oklahoma and while he lived in many places - he remained an "Okie" at heart. Gary resided in Westwood, NJ with his fiancée Denise Salto. They met on the Delta Queen Riverboat when he modeled an orange life vest and Denise was instantly smitten. Denise has often said that he was the best thing that had ever happened to her. Gary and Denise have spent the last several years enjoying life, traveling on the boats and staying in touch with the passengers and crew who became fast friends. Gary is also survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Jones of Franklin TN and son Alex Jones of Texas. One of the proudest moments of his life was attending Elizabeth's college graduation and being able to see what a smart, beautiful young women she has become. His brothers, James Morris and wife Debby, Jerry Morris and wife Terri, and Phillip Morris and wife Debbie will miss him terribly. He was the glue that held them together and the big brother that kept them all in line. His daily telephone calls, NASCAR updates, and duties as guidance/life counselor will be sorely missed. His family included many nieces, nephews, and cousins - too many to name. Although he was especially close to his "cuz" Donnie Secrest and had visited several times in the last few years. Gary left quite an impression on his nephew, Jared Morris who will remember him as "one of the most bada$$ mothers that he ever knew and had a laugh that you could pick out of a million". There have been many tributes left on Facebook - both touching and funny that truly reveal how many lives he touched. Please leave your remembrances and stories here for all to enjoy.
